  • The project is in line with future plans for Dubai and the UAE.
  • In 2021 the UAE will celebrate its Golden Jubilee – an opportunity to connect Expo 2020 into our country celebrations.

INTERESTING FACTS:

CSS And Peters & May Handle Racing Boats

CSS and Peters & May recently handled several luxurious powerboats at the CSS Jebel Ali facility whereby lavish boats were moved carefully and kept at CSS’s secure facility in Jebel Ali. See

CSS VP of Business Development, Ken Dinnadge commented,  “We are delighted to have the experience and expertise operationally to service both the regional and global market for Yacht & Marine logistics with Peters & May.”

Nurturing Trade, Geared For Growth

Trade is integral to Dubai. Dubai’s strategic plan highlights Trade, Transportation and Logistics as key growth sectors! These sectors have proved to be resilient in the aftermath of the global economic crisis of 2009.

DP World UAE region continues to position Jebel Ali Port as the gateway port of choice to handle cargo destined for the Middle East, India and Africa regions. We cater to a population of over 2 billion in our wider region.

At Jebel Ali Port – Our Commitment to Nurture Trade is exhibited in our responsiveness to market needs and increasing efficiencies of your supply chain.  With over 100 berths spread across 19 kilometers of quay at Jebel Ali – a truly unique polyfunctional port our Container Terminals can collectively handle 14 million TEU per annum. With a 1 million square meter area at our General Cargo Terminal we can handle Break Bulk, Bulk and RORO. Our terminal infrastructure is complemented by our logistics capabilities including Trucking, Container Freight Station, Cool and Cold Storage and a proven expertise in cargo mode conversion.

During 2011, we handled 13 million TEU, our best ever performance yet reflecting a resurging economy from the previous best at 11.8 million TEU in 2008.

At Jebel Ali Port we facilitate end to end solutions offering the trade an unparalleled network accessibility and global connectivity reducing the number of re – handlings contributing to lowering transportation costs. Our efforts have seen lower land – side inventory, reduction in carbon footprints, all bringing greater efficiencies to the supply chain.

Keeping pace with the technology, Jebel Ali Port is one of the most modern facility of its kind. With Gate Automation system and paperless processing of cargo documentation, virtually, all manual transaction processes between the trade, the hauliers and the shipping lines have been automated.  Automation to the extent that, since Jan 2012 DP World switched to 100 percent electronic transactions.

Our port community portal (www.dubaitrade.ae) currently provides over 800 services dealing with not only the port but also Dubai customs, Free Zone, Banks and a host of other organisations that support the supply chain industry in the region.

Our e-Gate, e-Token, RFID, e-Payment features have decreased haulier’s waiting and queuing times at port and terminal gates, wherein truck turnaround time has been reduced from 2 hours to 30 minutes, resulting in an average fuel saved per truck per trip of 0.87 gallons, which translates to a saving of approximately AED 23 million per annum to the transport and trade community. DP World will continue to provide optimal infrastructure and expertise to drive innovation, cost efficient services and processes. Jebel Ali Port offers multimodal connectivity between sea, air and land. Rail connectivity to the Etihad Rail network will soon add to the current strengths of the Port.

In line with market demand 5 million TEU of additional capacity will be added to our container terminals. With this expansion, we will be capable of handling the next generation mega container liners, each of which can carry as many as 18,000 containers. Jebel Ali Port capacity will increase to 19 million TEU by 2014.  Developments across DP World UAE Region also includes the modernisation of Hamriya Port and Port Rashid. Over 100,000 square metre of yard has been paved and developed and are available for lease to trade and logistics companies. 1,650 metre long fishing wharf will be created to accommodate over 190 fishing boats. These expansions are aimed at strengthening Hamriya Port’s traditional shipping capabilities. Expansions at the Cruise Terminal are also in progress at Port Rashid which will enable the port to handle upto five cruise ships simultaneously.

History

  • IATA was founded in Havana, Cuba, in April 1945.

IATA Offices

  • IATA has 63 offices in 60 countries
  • Head Office: Montreal, Canada
  • Executive Office: Geneva, Switzerland
  • Regional Offices in Amman, Beijing, Brussels, Johannesburg, Madrid, Miami, Moscow, Singapore, Washington

Our mission at the Air Transport Industry’s side

Air transport is one of the most dynamic industries in the world. The International Air Transport Association (IATA) is its global trade organization. Over 60 years, IATA has developed the commercial standards that built a global industry. Today, IATA’s mission is to represent, lead and serve the airline industry. Its members comprise some 240 airlines – the world’s leading passenger and cargo airlines among them – representing 84% of total air traffic.

Representing

IATA seeks to improve understanding of the industry among decision makers and increase awareness of the benefits that aviation brings to national and global economies. It fights for the interests of airlines across the globe, challenging unreasonable rules and charges, holding regulators and governments to account, and striving for sensible regulation.

Leading

IATA’s aim is to help airlines help themselves by simplifying processes and increasing passenger convenience while reducing costs and improving efficiency. The groundbreaking Simplifying the Business initiative is crucial in this area. Moreover, safety is IATA’s number one priority, and IATA’s goal is to continually improve safety standards, notably through IATA’s Operational Safety Audit (IOSA). Another main concern is to minimize the impact of air transport on the environment.

Serving

IATA ensures that people and goods can move around the global airline network as easily as if they were on a single airline in a single country. In addition, it provides essential professional support to all industry stakeholders with a wide range of products and expert services, such as publications, training and consulting. IATA’s financial systems also help carriers and the travel industry maximize revenues.

For the benefit for all parties involved:

For consumers, IATA simplifies the travel and shipping processes, while keeping costs down. Passengers can make one telephone call to reserve a ticket, pay in one currency and then use the ticket on several airlines in several countries.

  • IATA allows airlines to operate safely, securely, efficiently and economically under clearly defined rules.
  • IATA serves as an intermediary between airlines and passenger as well as cargo agents via neutrally applied agency service standards and centralized financial systems.
  • A large network of industry suppliers and service providers gathered by IATA provides solid expertise to airlines in a variety of industry solutions.
  • For governments, IATA seeks to ensure they are well informed about the complexities of the aviation industry to ensure better, long-term decisions.

In the opening words of the Founding Chairman Dr Khaled Almazroui, General Manager Fujairah International Airport, “This is a good arena for everyone to join in promoting the Green initiative in the Middle East’’. Dr Khaled welcomed everyone present encouraging them in their efforts to promote this course. GALG already boasts of eminent personalities from the aviation and logistics industry, who have evinced to be a part of it; thus, a global effort to protect the environment.

The Green Aviation & Logistics Group plans to have a training centre in the near future; where in there will be in-depth transfer of research results. The GALG member companies, authorities, governments and international companies and organizations, will have regular exchanges that will cover technical innovations and other drivers, like eco-design of engines, systems, GTL technology, fuel from algae, waste management, etc.

Eng. Mahmood Al Bastaki, Director of Dubai Trade Department-Dubai World was the first presenter for the evening and his based his presentation on Dubai Trade and how it is Facilitating Trade & Logistics through Dubai as well as the Significance of Trade in UAE which revealed that Trade and Logistics is the sole business hub in UAE and Dubai especially.

Eng. Mahmood Al Bastaki also looked at the Value of Trade in Dubai as the main push to the Commitment of Dubai Government to the Trade & Logistics sector considering the fact that a lot of Evolution has occurred in the Trade sector. In early 2000, the need for efficient, transparent and secured cross border trade mandated the creation of a single window by the Ports, Customs & Free Zones Authority. ‘’This is growth and Development’’ he added

Eng. Mazen Altoukhi, General Manager of Green Car Rental-Dubai, equally gave an elaborate presentation on Green Car Rental as the present and Future way of going Green. He drew examples from the various ways at which this can be done considering the fact that we cannot do without cars ion our world of today and in the business milieu.

Eng. Mazen Altoukhi also looked at the differences between the Electric vehicle and the hybrid car, coming out with the clear distinction that the former will use the Electric motor for propulsion rather than being powered by the gasoline powered motor; while the later refers to an automobile that has both a conventional gas engine and a bank of batteries and shares the demand for power between these two sources.

Why Go Green?

‘’Charging up at home means never going to the gas station and electric cars require almost none of the maintenance, like oil changes emission checks that internal combustion cars require. Electric motors develop their highest torques from zero rpms, meaning fast (and silent) – Zero-60 acceleration times’’ he added.

To drive 36,000km with a gas engine car, compared to Hybrid and electric cars, Eng. Mazen Altoukhi emphasized that the benefits come in terms of Cost and CO2, which is the green move we are heading for.

Special invitees for the evening were Amith Horra, Marketing Manager, CSS Dubai and Deepu S Dev, Marketing Coordinator CSS Dubai.

“Attending such events is crucial in this day and age whereby Go Green initiatives are being commonly carried out by organizations from all industries worldwide. It is vital that we continue to educate ourselves on new trends and developments and share this with our colleagues. As an organization that is active in various Green initiatives across the CSS Group, Go Green is a realisation of CSS Group’s vision. I would like to thank Arabian Reach for hosting an informative and well executed event whereby we were able to network with industry leaders and innovators adopting various Go Green initiatives,” added Amith Horra, Marketing Manager, CSS Dubai.
