Dubai Boat Show 2012 CSS Group & Peters & May

The 20th annual edition of the Dubai International Boat Show took place at the prestigious Dubai International Marine Club from March 13-17th, 2012.  Home to more than 430 boats, the show featured 20 superyachts and an astounding 33 premiers, including 9 world launches and 24 regional launches, highlighting the event’s number one ranking in the Middle East as the leading destination for leisure marine trade and boating enthusiasts.

“The 20th anniversary of the Boat Show marked one of the region’s great milestones within the leisure maritime sector and we highlighted this achievement with our best show ever, from the record number of super yacht builders exhibiting, to amazing investment opportunities to secure optimum purchases on the full-range of boats and products on display, plus the spectacular entertainment and educational opportunities on offer. The boat show brings together the full range of marine offerings and is ‘the’ event on Dubai’s social calendar which is not to be missed,” said Trixee Loh, Senior Vice President, Dubai World Trade Centre, organiser of the event.

CSS Group and Peters & May exhibited its first class products and services in the Luxury Supplies and Services Area of the Dubai International Boat Show, at stand number LSS-D3.

“This year’s exhibition saw an increased number of traffic within the Luxury Supplies and Services Area. We welcomed quite a few visitors everyday and I was extremely impressed with the quality of leads and networking that took place at our booth,” said Edward Morgan, Manager-Yacht & Marine Logistics CSS Group/Peters & May.

“The Dubai International Boat Show has not only maintained its position as an essential event for the region’s leisure marine industry, over 20 years it has become a vital gateway to the global boating market,” he added.

Following last year’s success, 2012 witnessed the return of the hugely popular Supercar Promenade where visitors were able to get behind the wheel of some of the world’s fastest and most expensive cars – such as Bentley Continental Series 51, Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG, and Rolls-Royce Phantom Drophead Coupé – all of which could be purchased at the show and driven off the site.

The Dubai International Boat Show was open to trade visitors and the general public from 3pm to 9:30pm daily.

Dubai Export Monitor Shows Continuous Growth Trend

Exports continue to increase fostering growth in Dubai’s manufacturing sector. South and West Asia are top destinations for Dubai products by value, according to Dubai Export Monitor – a yearly publication by the government.

Dubai Exports, an agency of the Department of Economic Development (DED), Government of Dubai, revealed that in 2010, the Emirate has been exporting diverse products, such as gold and precious metals, sugar, plastics and food, in various target export markets particularly in South and West Asia.

“This edition of Dubai Export Monitor report has been compiled to serve as a ready reference to various stakeholders in the four main areas of interest-overall trade trend, regional trade, trade by product and trade by market,” said Saed Al Awadi, Chief Executive Officer, Dubai Exports.

An important conclusion of the report showed that in 2010, exports sustained the continuous growth trend, while imports to Dubai and Free Zone as well as re-exports have reversed the decline witnessed in 2009. Another important trend was the continuous growth of direct and free zone exports during the past years, followed the positive growth trend of manufacturing GDP, indicating that exporting was a main factor in fostering manufacturing growth during the recession.

With three months still to go until the celebrations begin, Dubai International Boat Show running 13 – 17 March 2012, has already had to increase its exhibition space at the Dubai International Marine Club – Mina Seyahi to cater to an unprecedented 750 international and regional exhibiting companies and brands.

CSS Group and Peters & May will be exhibiting its first class products and services in the Luxury Supplies and Services Area of the Dubai International Boat Show, stand number LSS-D3.

Following an estimated AED 1 billion worth of sales as a direct result of the last show, the event is also widening its global reach even further in 2012. Exhibitors from more than 40 countries will be taking part including debut appearances from several new nations from as far afield as Madagascar and Tunisia.

The Arabian marine industry has grown substantially over the past 20 years, thanks mainly to the local manufacturers and the foresight of the local governments.  We are fortunate enough to be partnered with CSS in Dubai as they continue to represent us in the best possible manner.”

Other key segments of the show include the Super yacht Boulevard, exclusively reserved for the showcasing of super yachts of 25 metres and above; the Marina Display Area, comprising of the largest on-water display in the Middle East; the Luxury Supplies & Services housing the finest luxury boat builders from around the world; and Equipment Supplies & Services, an indoor area filled with exhibitors specialising in products essential to the supply and servicing of the leisure marine industry.

Dubai Pre-Owned Boat Show

A RESOUNDING SUCCESS AS SALES EXCEED AED 26 MILLION

Nearly 6,500 visitors flocked to the stunning Dubai Creek Marina for the second ever Dubai Pre-Owned Boat Show held from November 17-19, 2011 which was officially inaugurated by  HH Shaikh Mansour bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.

Prospective and existing boat owners from around the region, as well as fun-seeking families headed to the Dubai Creek Marina to view the striking pre-owned boats for sale as well as take part in exciting activities on the water including a Jet Ski competition.

Despite the frivolity of the occasion, business remained a key focus and the event proved to be a phenomenal success with 22 boats sold at a combined price of over AED 26 million. The highly sought- after Princess 50 was snatched off the market on the first day itself at the competitive price of AED 4 million. Separately, the top two buyers bought boats totaling AED 7.5 million respectively, including a pristine Azimut 62 for AED 4 million.

Sales were not limited to boats alone, as the event provided a ‘one stop-shop’ with a complete range of retail offerings from the marine and leisure industries.

CSS Group and Peters & May, first time exhibitors took advantage of their booths prime location by catering to the numerous Yacht and Marine Logistics inquires for first time and repeat yacht buyers.  “The tremendous response of the show and the vibrant atmosphere was essential for our networking and service offerings to all customers. By having our booth in a prime location we were able to attract large crowds whilst providing first class yacht and marine logistics services to all. The positive response gathered from the show, ensures CSS Group and Peters & May will be exhibiting in 2012.  Having increased the exhibitor area this year by 20% we successfully served as a platform to directly engage buyers and sellers of pre-owned boats, marine equipment and boating services.  As an established leader in the UAE boating community, CSS and Peters & May believe in providing support to local initiatives & our partners the Dubai Creek Golf & Yacht Club,” added Edward Morgan, Manager Yacht and Marine Logistics, CSS Group/Peters & May.

Speaking on the event’s success, Mustafa Al-Hashimi, Club Manager of Dubai Creek Golf and Yacht Club said, “Following the successful debut of the Dubai Pre-Owned Boat Show last year, we are thrilled to see that this year’s event has surpassed the last. The show was eagerly received by not only boating enthusiasts from around the region, but many families from the local community.  With boat sales topping AED 26 million, the overwhelming demand for the second Dubai Pre-Owned Boat Show truly demonstrates that there is a strong and growing appetite for pre-owned boats in the region which this event is able to satisfy, and we very much look forward to building on this success for next year’s event.”

The Dubai Pre-Owned Boat Show took place from 17-19th November at Dubai Creek Marina which showcased 85 boats to the value of 55 million, ranging from a 25ft to 88ft and from 30,000AED to 22 million AED.

The Free Zones And The Trade

Free Zones have been used internationally to promote export, attract foreign direct investment and to spur the economic growth. The generic free zone concept has evolved overtime. There is several Free Zones found internationally including export processing zones: EPZs (industrial free zones for export manufacturing industries), and commercial free zones (for trading, warehousing and export activities).

Several countries in Middle East were late adopters of Free Zones with the UAE amongst the leading Free Zones in this region. As one of the largest and fastest growing free zones, Jebel Ali Free Zone (“JAFZA”) aspires to be the international business hub of the Middle East. JAFZA has successfully been attracting investors in all business sectors from all over the world by sheer force of its unique value added offerings and propositions. More than 6000 of the world’s finest companies are currently based in JAFZA. The present JAFZA profile includes more than 150 of the Global Fortune 500 companies. It has seen a phenomenal 300-fold growth in its member strength growing from 19 companies in 1985 to over 6000 in 2007. Since the turn of this century the number of companies in JAFZA has grown by more than 350 per cent. The other free zones in the UAE include Airport Free zone, Hamriyah free zone, Sharjah Airport International, Ras Al Khaimah FTZ, Abu Dhabi Ports Company, Dubai Logistics City, Abu Dhabi Airport, Ajman and Fujairah Free Zone.

The key benefits of trading in free zones are the tax benefits, investment incentives and other value added advantages, which include:

  • 100% import/export tax exemption
  • No customs duty between free zones and option to pay the customs on the imported materials at the final destination
  • 100% Foreign ownership companies
  • Abundant and inexpensive energy
  • Online customer service (e-services)
  • A one stop shop facility for processing of all documentation including immigration, registration and licensing

CSS had a clear vision of establishing its own state-of-the-art facility in the Jebel Ali Free Zone to cater to the growing trends in the market and it became a reality in September 2002 with the commissioning of Consolidated Shipping Logistics Centre (CSLC 1) built within a sprawling area of 200,000sq.ft in the heart of the Jebel Ali Free Zone.

The supply chain management facility of CSS was set up in 2004, also situated in Jebel Ali Free Zone with an operational space of 140,000 sq.ft. with 22,000 CBM capacity along with CSLC 1 has become a landmark of success for the CSS Group.

Tariq Bin Khalifa, Director, Account Management – General Cargo, DP World, UAE Region said

“We believe the integrated multi-modal cargo transport process created by the cooperation between DP World, the UAE Region and Dubai Airports, as well as our Free Zone partners in Jebel Ali Free Zone (Jafza), is a logical step forward in Dubai’s continuous evolution as one of the finest trading hubs in the world.  It brings together a sea-land-air logistics platform that delivers true value to our common customers and benefits the growth of Jebel Ali Port, DWC-Al Maktoum International and Jafza.  Organizations like CSS Group who began their operations in 1995 have significantly contributed to the growth and development of Jafza and associated Free Zones amongst the freight forwarding and logistics fraternity.”
