The ADYS inaugurated on the 24th of March by H.H. Sheikh Nahyan Bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, (Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research) is the 3rd Yacht Show held in Abu Dhabi. Since its inception in 2009, the show has attracted some serious buyers and has been a very important show for the leading players in the Yacht Industry worldwide. Abu Dhabi, with its expansion plans and development of Marina based projects; the influx of Yachts in the ports is only inevitable. The leading players notice that the time is priming to make their presence felt especially in Abu Dhabi market which had bounced back the quickest with least effects of the global economic slowdown.

CSS Abu Dhabi and Peters and May (Suku Sudhakaran AGM CSS Abu Dhabi and Edward Morgan – Manager Yacht & Marine Logistics) had attended the same. They met a number of clients that they have been servicing and also learnt that a number of their clients had signed a number of high profile contracts thus ensuring a large amount of business for their office. CSS and Peters and May, being one of the top players, have already been approached for logistics assistance for handling the various aspects of the Yacht logistics from sourcing small spares to moving luxury yachts . There has been an equal mix of enquiries for imports and exports alike, with a lot of yachts moving into Abu Dhabi and leaving to areas within the Middle East.

Presence At The Arabian Construction Week / Intermant 2011 Exhibition At ADNEC

As part of its portfolio of supporting the logistic requirements of the new and used construction machinery and equipment clientele CSS Abu Dhabi have attended the recent Arabian Construction Week exhibition at ADNEC. The exhibition was held between the 28th and 30th of March 2011. Termed “The Middle East’s International Exhibition for Sustainable and Innovative Construction” clearly states it’s prominence to the region which is developing in every aspect.

Despite the economic slowdown in 2010, the construction industry in Abu Dhabi has witnessed fresh contracts awarded valued at US$35.5 billion; 66% of the value of all contracts awarded in the UAE for 2010 (courtesy:  Ventures Middle East).

2011 is seeing Abu Dhabi awarding new projects to the industry. There is an estimated USD 560 billion worth of construction contracts to be awarded in 2011. CSS Abu Dhabi was approached by one of our Book Logistics network partner mentioning that their client would like to have some assistance at the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair recently held at Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre between the15th March 2011 to 20th March 2011. Ms. Eunice Tse, Director – Business Development at TSE World Wide Press, Hong Kong was introduced to us and she was in need of some help in getting acquainted to Abu Dhabi and also for having a person who could help her with introductions and translations for her Arabic speaking visitors and prospective clients at the Abu Dhabi Book Fair. The task was handled by Rose Fawzy, Customer Service Executive at CSS Abu Dhabi who handles the customer service and agents enquiries communications. Rose with her proficiency in both English and Arabic, her friendly and helping nature made the client comfortable and she in turn helped the client generate many leads which we are sure will convert into business.

Abu Dhabi is going to see at least 20 new education institutions ranging from schools to universities scheduled to be opened 2011 through till end of year 2012. This will increase in the requirements of books printed materials etc from many parts of the world. CSS Abu Dhabi is coordinating imports of books coming in from USA, UK and Far East. We feel that the increasing demand will create imports from other parts of the world as well; we will see increased volumes coming in from the sub continent as well. Oil And Gas Industry

Held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, ADIPEC was inaugurated with the attendance of His Highness Sheikh Hazza Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, National Security Adviser to a footfall of over 10,000 vistors on Day 1 of the event alone.

The highly anticipated ADIPEC 2010, also witnessed for the first time a join participation between CSS Abu Dhabi and GPLN at one of the largest International Petroleum Exhibition and conference in the world.

The event, which lasted over four days, had a total footfall of over 38,000 visitors at the end of Day 3 only. Safety Is Of Paramount Importance To CSS

Abu Dhabi Is Now Focusing Heavily On Road Safety

As part of our own safety initiatives CSS is pleased to report that the Emirate of Abu Dhabi is now focusing on the importance of setting up a National Committee for Traffic Safety State was recently highlighted as an ideal framework to coordinate the efforts of various relevant parties.

The symposium recommended at the conclusion of its effectiveness in Abu Dhabi to include the proposed committee which includes representatives from all agencies and institutions and departments concerned with traffic safety as well as specialized NGOs, and that they have full powers in regard to issues of traffic safety.

The participants decided at the symposium organized by the Emirates Traffic Safety in cooperation with the International Organization for the prevention of road accidents and the Arab Organization for Traffic Safety, to raise the proposal of the General Secretariat of the Council of Arab Ministers of Interior and the Arab Organization for Traffic Safety. And to create an Arabic Monitor for traffic safety, entrusted with the establishment of an arab database and carry out studies to ensure a deeper analysis of the causes of road accidents and determine the terms of reference and sources of funding and a particular framework and methods of work.

The symposium was held over two days under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior, and supported by the Ministry of Interior and the Department of Transport in Abu Dhabi and the National Transport Authority, The event aimed to set up national strategies to be consistent and integrated based on a scientific basis, taking into account the various aspects of traffic safety. Identifying the objectives and the financing possibilities for the implementation and scheduling of time and evaluation tools, and channels of review and correction of the progress of the various pivots on the basis of evaluation results.

The recommendations of the participants in the symposium highlighted the importance of paying attention to an ambulance and rapid medical intervention to road accidents, both at the level of equipment, or medical supervision or coordination systems and interference between the various parties concerned and they recommend creating a unified emergency number globally as well as rehabilitation of victims of traffic accidents by sending specialized centers.

Retired Brigadier General Ahmed Hassan Al Hosni secretary of the Emirates Traffic Safety and thanked the extent of His Highness Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior for taking care of the symposium, which was held over two days at the Armed Forces Officers Club in Abu Dhabi. This included participation of experts, researchers, academics and NGOs working in the field of traffic safety and government officials from different specialties related to road accidents. This had a large impact on the success of the symposium.

The final recommendations of the participants, review of the legislation based on studies calendar takes into account the extent to which laws supported in and how it influencing the behavior of road users. Merged with the particulars of economic, social and psychological for each country and the adoption of intelligent transportation systems and modern technology to control which leads to greater transparency in the preview traffic violations.

Dubai International Boat Show 2011

Leisure marine companies from all over the world have announced their best sales in recent times at the 18th Dubai International Boat Show. Multi Million dollar sales were recorded at this year’s show, with a number of super yachts, including the Dhs72m Sunseeker 38 metre Special Edition, being purchased on-site as consumer confidence increased in the market. Among the 700 companies at this year’s show, CSS & Peters and May joined hands for this year’s Boat show. David Holley and Robert Blades from Peters and May joined by T.S. It is with great pleasure that CSS Group welcomed Paula Van Der Werf and Saskia De Jong from FPS Rotterdam who visited the CSS UAE offices in March 2011.  Since the early years the association with FPS Rotterdam has created new business opportunities and mutual benefits. Projects At A Glance

CSS Group’s Sales team Jebel Ali was contracted to move four Pressure vessels. These were transported from the client’s yard to Jebel Ali port and were then loaded onto the Break-bulk vessel on a direct delivery basis for discharge at Kandla Port. The cargo included Slug Catcher – 164.8 Tons (31 length x 6 width x 7 height meters), Production Separator – 157.61 Tons (31 length x 6 width x 7 height meters), Dehydrator – 68.8 tons (26.7 length x 4.25 width x 4.3 height meters) and Degasser – 14 tons (10.1 length x 3.32 width x 3.42 height meters). The operation extended for three days started from 9th to 11th March 2011. The movement included the use of special transport equipment’s like Hydraulic trailer and Dolly trailer to transport these units to Jebel Ali port. The whole critical operation was supported and coordinated by the CSS staff onsite to ensure smooth operation. This Project movement is yet another example of the exemplary services provided by CSS Group.

CSS Extends ITS Logistics Capabilities

With diverse interests in logistics and freight forwarding within the UAE, the CSS Group continues to expand and add to its capabilities. The company has recently, for example, entered into an alliance with Southampton based Peters & May to provide specialised services in yacht and marine logistics.

The joint initiative is already proving to be mutually beneficial, and earlier this year CSS was tasked with coordinating the door-to-door delivery of a luxury Technomar Nadarda 24 yacht from Genoa to Jebel Ali. CSS handled export clearance, supervision of loading, the provision of a cradle for the yacht and delivery into Dubai.

In January 2011 alone, CSS and Peters & May handled the shipment and clearance of more than 12 yachts and boats in Dubai. ‘We are looking forward to an exponential increase in the volume of business, due to the boat shows in both Dubai and Abu Dhabi,’ says Ken Dinnadge, newly appointed Vice President, Business Development. ‘We expect to be the preferred logistics supplier to many manufacturers and race teams.’

CSS is also looking to develop, together with its network partners across the world, a global ships spare parts service, and is further planning to offer regional heavy lift transport services.’This is an initiative we are planning to start in the near future in Abu Dhabi, taking into consideration the huge developments taking place in that part of the UAE,’ adds Dinnadge.

One particular area of focus for CSS over the coming year will be the provision of global shipping and logistics services for new and used construction machinery and equipment. As a recent example of its capabilities in this sector CSS was recently appointed to secure a suitable vessel to load and ship a large consignment of Caterpillar dump truck machines from Mumbai to Jebel Ali on behalf of Ritchie Bros. Auctioneers.

Since being established as a ‘one man band’ by Chairman T. S. Kaladharan in 1995, CSS has grown to become a diverse logistics business employing around 750 people worldwide. Ritchie Bros. Conducts Record – Breaking $57M Unreserved Dubai Auction

Ritchie Bros. Auctioneers, the industrial auctioneer, conducted a record-breaking auction in Dubai, United Arab Emirates last week (March 8 – 9), selling $57m of heavy equipment and trucks—the highest gross auction proceeds ever generated from a Dubai auction.

The auction also set new Dubai site records for on-site and online bidder registrations. In total, more than 800 unique bidders from 59 countries participated, competing for the 2,340 heavy equipment items and trucks sold. Buyers from outside the United Arab Emirates purchased close to 60% of the equipment in the auction ($32m worth).

Of the 2,340 heavy equipment items and trucks sold on behalf of more than 240 consignors in last week’s Dubai auction, there were 20 late model Caterpillar 777D rock trucks, which sold for a combined $15.7m to buyers from Australia, Germany and the United Arab Emirates.

Ritchie Bros. also conducted several other multi-million dollar unreserved auctions last week in Fort Worth, Texas; Toronto, ON, Canada; Saint Aubin Sur Gaillon, France; Olympia, WA, USA and Edmonton, AB, Canada.

CSS Annual Staff Party

CSS Group celebrated its 16th anniversary staff party at The British Club in Abu Dhabi on Friday 1st April, 2011.The annual party began at 8.30 pm with the employees and their family members arriving at the venue. The evening commenced with the opening remarks from the CSS Group Chairman, T.S. Kaladharan. On this auspicious occasion the employees who had completed 10 years of service, Ambili Don, Vasudevan Nambiar, Vinod Kumar Rajendran and Nelson David were honored for their valuable service. The senior management felicitated the highly anticipated employee of the year was announced, Ajo Andrews for year 2009 and Sujith Valavath for year 2010. This was followed by the performances by the employees and their family members, which included dance, songs and skits. With the dance floor packed throughout the evening and the DJ playing the latest hits the night turned out be one of a kind.
