As Peters & May is going through some restructuring and reengineering attending this global meeting was crucial in order to offer a broader range of services as well as to ensure the global network is focusing on emerging markets and their core business.

Peters & May Ltd., a marine logistics company, manages and handles the transportation of boats, yachts, and associated marine peripherals. It arranges and handles boat/yacht transportation via air, sea, and road; arranges shipping for masts and urgent spares, marine equipment and supplies, and support containers; and assists its clients in various aspects of event management and provides logistics support for sporting, marketing, and commercial projects. Inco Term Definitions/Changes

The 11 Incoterms consist of two groups and are listed below in order of increasing risk/liability to the exporter. Under the revised terms, buyers and sellers are being urged to contract precisely where delivery is made and what charges are covered. This should avoid double-billing of terminal handling charges at the port of discharge. References to “ship’s rail” were taken out to clarify that delivery means “on-board” the vessel. Insurance, electronic documentation, and supply chain security are addressed in more detail, and gender-neutral language is now used.

RULES FOR SEA AND INLAND WATERWAY TRANSPORT:

FAS – Free Alongside Ship: Risk passes to buyer, including payment of all transportation and  insurance costs, once delivered alongside the ship (realistically at named port terminal) by the seller. The export clearance obligation rests with the seller.

FOB – Free On Board: Risk passes to buyer, including payment of all transportation and insurance costs, once delivered on board the ship by the seller. A step further than FAS.

CFR – Cost and Freight: Seller delivers goods and risk passes to buyer when on board the vessel. Seller arranges and pays cost and freight to the named destination port. A step further than FOB.

CIF – Cost, Insurance and Freight: Risk passes to buyer when delivered on board the ship. Seller arranges and pays cost, freight and insurance to destination port. Adds insurance costs to CFR.

RULES FOR ANY MODE OR MODES OF TRANSPORTATION:

EXW – Ex Works: Seller delivers (without loading) the goods at disposal of buyer at seller’s premises. Long held as the most preferable term for those new-to-export because it represents the minimum liability to the seller. On these routed transactions, the buyer has limited obligation to provide export information to the seller.

FCA – Free Carrier: Seller delivers the goods to the carrier and may be responsible for clearing the goods for export (filing the EEI). More realistic than EXW because it includes loading at pick-up, which is commonly expected, and sellers are more concerned about export violations.

CPT – Carriage Paid To: Seller delivers goods to the carrier at an agreed place, shifting risk to the buyer, but seller must pay cost of carriage to the named place of destination.

CIP – Carriage and Insurance Paid To: Seller delivers goods to the carrier at an agreed place, shifting risk to the buyer, but seller pays carriage and insurance to the named place of destination.

DAT – Delivered at Terminal: Seller bears cost, risk and responsibility until goods are unloaded (delivered) at named quay, warehouse, yard, or terminal at destination. Demurrage or detention charges may apply to seller. Seller clears goods for export, not import. DAT replaces DEQ, DES.

DAP – Delivered at Place: Seller bears cost, risk and responsibility for goods until made available to buyer at named place of destination. Seller clears goods for export, not import. DAP replaces DAF, DDU.

DDP – Delivered Duty Paid: Seller bears cost, risk and responsibility for cleared goods at named place of destination at buyers disposal. Buyer is responsible for unloading. Seller is responsible for import clearance, duties and taxes so buyer is not “importer of record”.

Chairman’s Message

Wishing you all “A Happy New Year 2012” is a greeting that is worth repeating because looking back over the past twelve months gives me great cheer. We have been given tremendous support by the cargo fraternity during the course of year 2011 that passed by. It is therefore with great joy that we welcome the New Year, as I look forward to 2012 with enthusiastic optimism.

I am thankful for the support and cooperation from all our agents, associates, well-wishers and most importantly our staff at CSS who have contributed throughout the year 2011. Regardless of the global economic setbacks and its financial instability, we were successful in riding across complex situations. I believe it was our timely strategic planning and our readiness to think “out of the box” which proved to be the major contributory factors.

A recent article published in The Washington post makes comment about the change of business approach being recently made by Indian IT companies. Entrepreneurs are shifting their businesses from servicing corporate giants, to developing high value technology products based on intellectual property. India is no longer content to remain as the business process outsourcing centre of the world. Instead focus is being concentrated on the next generation’s revolution.

In a similar way it was our adaptability which we discussed at our recently concluded “Sales Strategy Meet” in Dubai. The theme we adopted was “Foresee the future” – Delivering services today whilst planning for tomorrow. It is a similar spirit a New Year brings and I am convinced that at CSS we can proudly say, “The best is yet to come”.

Breakbulk Americas Sets New Orleans Attendance Record

Manager, NVOCC Operations. From IFS Doha, Oliver Hahn, Regional Manager was also in attendance.

“Being one of the largest and most important gathering in the Americas for companies involved in the shipping of heavy-lift, out of gauge project cargo and traditional Breakbulk cargoes, Breakbulk Americas was the perfect platform for CSS and its network partners to introduce its products and services whilst networking and developing relationships with the leading specialized carriers, forwarders, ports, terminals and packers who have the expertise and resources to handle oversized cargoes with unique handling requirements” – Sreenath V, General Manager CSS Projects, Oil & Energy, CSS Dubai.

The conference program showcased industry leaders and noted analysts during four days of education sessions and conference panel discussions, which addressed the project cargo market outlook, carrier solvency, new Incoterms, modularization trends and controlling contract costs, among other issues facing the Breakbulk and heavy-lift sectors.

In addition to the conference program and bustling exhibition hall, Breakbulk Americas 2011 hosted Breakbulk Education Day; the first annual Rickmers Golf Tournament, which raised $2,800 for the New Orleans Chapter of Habitat for Humanity; the Breakbulk Business Run, which brought together 40 runners for networking and charity, a certificate program in project cargo management and a heavy-lift technical workshop sponsored by Proven Logistics Solutions.

Breakbulk Americas is one of three major conferences and exhibitions organized annually by UBM Global Trade’s Breakbulk division. Breakbulk Americas will return to Houston October 9-11, 2012.

Dubai Pre-Owned Boat Show

A RESOUNDING SUCCESS AS SALES EXCEED AED 26 MILLION

Nearly 6,500 visitors flocked to the stunning Dubai Creek Marina for the second ever Dubai Pre-Owned Boat Show held from November 17-19, 2011 which was officially inaugurated by  HH Shaikh Mansour bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.

Prospective and existing boat owners from around the region, as well as fun-seeking families headed to the Dubai Creek Marina to view the striking pre-owned boats for sale as well as take part in exciting activities on the water including a Jet Ski competition.

Despite the frivolity of the occasion, business remained a key focus and the event proved to be a phenomenal success with 22 boats sold at a combined price of over AED 26 million. The highly sought- after Princess 50 was snatched off the market on the first day itself at the competitive price of AED 4 million. Separately, the top two buyers bought boats totaling AED 7.5 million respectively, including a pristine Azimut 62 for AED 4 million.

Sales were not limited to boats alone, as the event provided a ‘one stop-shop’ with a complete range of retail offerings from the marine and leisure industries.

CSS Group and Peters & May, first time exhibitors took advantage of their booths prime location by catering to the numerous Yacht and Marine Logistics inquires for first time and repeat yacht buyers.  “The tremendous response of the show and the vibrant atmosphere was essential for our networking and service offerings to all customers. By having our booth in a prime location we were able to attract large crowds whilst providing first class yacht and marine logistics services to all. The positive response gathered from the show, ensures CSS Group and Peters & May will be exhibiting in 2012.  Having increased the exhibitor area this year by 20% we successfully served as a platform to directly engage buyers and sellers of pre-owned boats, marine equipment and boating services.  As an established leader in the UAE boating community, CSS and Peters & May believe in providing support to local initiatives & our partners the Dubai Creek Golf & Yacht Club,” added Edward Morgan, Manager Yacht and Marine Logistics, CSS Group/Peters & May.

Speaking on the event’s success, Mustafa Al-Hashimi, Club Manager of Dubai Creek Golf and Yacht Club said, “Following the successful debut of the Dubai Pre-Owned Boat Show last year, we are thrilled to see that this year’s event has surpassed the last. The show was eagerly received by not only boating enthusiasts from around the region, but many families from the local community.  With boat sales topping AED 26 million, the overwhelming demand for the second Dubai Pre-Owned Boat Show truly demonstrates that there is a strong and growing appetite for pre-owned boats in the region which this event is able to satisfy, and we very much look forward to building on this success for next year’s event.”

The Dubai Pre-Owned Boat Show took place from 17-19th November at Dubai Creek Marina which showcased 85 boats to the value of 55 million, ranging from a 25ft to 88ft and from 30,000AED to 22 million AED.
